Chapter 13: The Fake Young Master Meets the Fake Heiress

After noon, Shi Yi left the villa and went shopping at a nearby mall.
This world was still full of novelty to her.
She wore a long-sleeved white knitted sweater paired with fitted trousers. Her skin was porcelain-pale, her beauty as delicate as a spring blossom, and with the breeze lightly brushing past her, she stood out conspicuously among the crowd.
After choosing her purchases, she went to pay. Although she possessed the original owner’s memories, she still could not help marveling when she saw the option to pay through WeChat.
What an advanced invention a mobile phone was! One did not even need to carry money when going out anymore!
As she left with two large bags of goods, she reached up to pull open the glass door.
Suddenly, a figure rushed over from a distance and slammed the door open with a bang.
Shi Yi’s hands happened to be caught in the gap between the glass doors. A piercing pain surged through her entire body, and she nearly lost her balance.
It felt as though all ten of her fingers had been crushed. Bright red beads of blood welled up, stark and glaring.
Never in her wildest dreams had she imagined that this world, too, would be plagued by such a vile commoner!
Shi Yi dropped her things and gave chase, but the man in the food-delivery uniform had already forced his way into the crowd and disappeared.
Several shoppers entering the mall jostled her inside. Shi Yi gritted her teeth against the pain.
These were the hands that had once wielded a silver spear on the battlefield to slay enemies, the hands capable of restoring jade artifacts and antiques, the hands that could draw designs for exquisite, innovative jewelry—and they had been injured by some vile commoner!
She trembled with fury from head to toe. Her face was deathly pale, and indignation filled the depths of her eyes.
Someone nearby had apparently called an ambulance. A young man supported her and helped take her to the hospital.
The doctor first stopped the bleeding and took X-rays, then arranged for her to receive an intravenous infusion in a hospital room.
Shi Yi’s delicate little face crumpled with unbearable grievance. According to the original owner’s memories, she had been the Shi family’s false heiress. After the real heiress returned, the Shi family had refused to acknowledge her as their daughter.
Her biological parents were nothing but bloodsuckers. Every time they saw her, they only asked her for money; there was not the slightest trace of familial affection between them.
In other words, in this world, she had practically no family at all. A profound sense of helplessness rose from the depths of her heart.
She pouted, feeling as though she might cry.
A voice suddenly sounded outside the hospital room.
“What happened? Who hurt her?”
“Young Master Ling, you only told me to follow her from a distance. I saw a man in a food-delivery uniform rush out and injure Miss Shi.”
The young man who had brought Shi Yi to the hospital was none other than Ling Siye’s bodyguard, He Wen. Ling Siye had long sensed that Shi Yi would be in danger; he simply had not expected the mother and son of the Chu family to act so quickly.
Ling Siye clenched his fists in anger. “Investigate it. Find him for me. Even if you have to dig three feet into the ground, bring that man to me.”
“Yes, Young Master Ling.” He Wen hurriedly replied with respect.
A moment later, the hospital-room door was pushed open, and a tall figure appeared.
The man’s expression was cold and stern. He strode in on his long legs.

The white shirt he wore was open at the collar, with two buttons casually undone. His figure was tall and upright, and his bearing was incomparably noble.
He sat beside Shi Yi and looked at her swollen fingers, their nail beds darkened. His face filled with heartache.
He wanted nothing more than to pull this petite woman into his arms and soothe her properly.
He leaned over and gently blew on her injured fingers before asking in a warm voice, “Does it hurt?”
Shi Yi’s nose tingled. Suppressing the urge to cry, she shook her head. “Who exactly are you? Why did that man call you Young Master Ling? Are you really a bodyguard of the Ling family?”
She could vaguely sense that the man before her was no ordinary person.
Ling Siye affectionately rubbed her head and smiled faintly. “My name is Ling Siye. I’m merely an idle fellow adopted by the Ling family.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he picked up Shi Yi’s phone, saved his own number, and added himself to her WeChat contacts.
“If anything happens in the future, you can call me.”
Shi Yi thought for a moment. “Are you the Ling family’s false heir?”
Ling Siye neither admitted nor denied it. He merely smiled. “Don’t overthink things. I have no ill intentions in approaching you.”
A false heir paired with a false heiress—she would not feel any pressure.
Shi Yi stared at him for quite some time.
In all honesty, she did not dislike the man before her.
A handsome young gentleman as beautiful as a flower wanted to become her lover. She was somewhat tempted—especially since he had saved her life when they first met, making him, in a sense, her savior.
Not only was this handsome young man exceptionally good-looking, but more importantly, he was remarkably skilled in bed…
Shi Yi silently swallowed.
What on earth was she thinking?
Why did all sorts of improper thoughts spring into her mind whenever she looked at this man? She felt as though her mind had become filthy.
She was the daughter of a distinguished military household. How could she allow herself to be bewitched by beauty?
After the infusion was finished, Ling Siye took a damp towel and prepared to wipe her face. Unaccustomed to being waited on, Shi Yi turned her head away. “I—I can do it myself.”
“Your hands are injured. Let me take care of you, all right?” Ling Siye ventured.
Shi Yi nodded awkwardly.
After that, Ling Siye fed her, helped her take her medicine, and supported her as she lay down.
Neither of them said a word during the process, yet their movements were remarkably harmonious, as if they were an old married couple.
Night was drawing near.
Ling Siye’s phone suddenly rang. He answered it, and after listening to the other person speak for a few moments, a layer of ice settled over his eyes.
When the report ended, he clenched his back teeth, and his handsome brows drew together slightly.

Only after taking several deep breaths did he manage to suppress the anger in his heart.
He rose and rubbed Shi Yi’s head. “Yiyi, I have something to take care of. I’ll be out for a while. Go to sleep first.”
Shi Yi lifted her eyelids and stared intently at him. “Have you found the culprit?”
“Don’t worry. I’ll handle everything.” Ling Siye leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead, his hoarse voice low and alluring.
Shi Yi’s breathing stopped for a moment. Unease filled her vivid phoenix eyes, and her long lashes trembled lightly.
“Don’t kiss me,” she scolded softly, her heart pounding hard against her ribs.
The thoughts she had just managed to put in order had all been thrown into disarray by this young man. If she was not careful, this rogue would take advantage of her.
“Be good and wait for me to come back.” Ling Siye showed not the slightest trace of anger. Instead, he affectionately rubbed her head once more.
With flushed cheeks, Shi Yi pushed him away. “Y-You should hurry up and leave.”
Ling Siye cast one last lingering glance at her before turning away.
When he passed through the doorway, he instructed the bodyguard stationed outside, “Protect her well. Call me immediately if anything happens.”
The bodyguard nodded. “Yes, Young Master Ling.”
After Ling Siye got into the car, He Wen reported to him, “Young Master Ling, I took people to review the surveillance footage inside and outside the mall. We had to call upon several different resources before we found the man who injured Miss Shi. His name is Jiang Dayong. His account received a transfer of one hundred thousand today, so he was probably acting on someone’s orders. However, the transfer came from an anonymous account.”
Ling Siye’s voice was as cold as ice. “Where is he?”
“We’ve already taken him to the police station. The surveillance footage shows that he disguised himself as a delivery worker and followed Miss Shi. It also appears that he deliberately wanted to destroy her hands,” He Wen replied.
“Damn it.”
Ling Siye clenched his fist and slammed it viciously against the seat.
What kind of life had Shi Yi been living these past two years?
Half an hour later, they arrived at the police station where Jiang Dayong was being held.
Jiang Dayong appeared to be in his forties. He was tall and thin, with a sharp gaze; at first glance, he was clearly no good person.
Ling Siye walked over to him and gave him a cold look. “Why did you deliberately injure her? Tell me who ordered you to do it.”
Jiang Dayong lowered his head and ignored him.
Ling Siye tugged at the corner of his lips and sneered. “Still refusing to talk? I have plenty of ways to make you open your mouth.”
With that, he picked up the glass on the table and hurled it straight at Jiang Dayong’s head.
