Chapter Four: Undercurrents Stirring
Inside the marketing department of Shen Group, the surface bustled with busy work scenes, yet beneath it flowed a current of unease. Xu Yunchuan’s sudden rise not only resolved a thorny problem for the department but also sparked considerable gossip among his colleagues.
“That newcomer is quite impressive—only been here a few days and already presenting such a professional proposal.”
“Impressive? It’s just luck. Besides, do you think Manager Li will let him off so easily? Just wait; the higher he rises, the harder he’ll fall.”
Faced with such murmurs, Xu Yunchuan remained low-key. He understood that as a newcomer, he was merely a pawn in a world ruled by the strong. Only by steadily accumulating strength could he truly find his footing.
A New Assignment
A few days later, the marketing department received a critical task. Shen Group was preparing to launch a brand-new high-end smart home product, and the marketing team was responsible for its preliminary promotional plan.
Li Haifeng personally chaired the meeting. Scanning everyone present, his gaze finally settled on Xu Yunchuan, accompanied by a faint sneer. “Xu Yunchuan, you’ll be in charge of the promotional plan this time. Submit the first draft in three days.”
Xu Yunchuan was momentarily taken aback but quickly nodded in agreement. “Understood, Manager Li.”
Li Haifeng’s cold smile deepened inwardly. “Hmph, you want to stand out? Let’s see what tricks you can pull this time.”
After the meeting, Xu Yunchuan returned to his desk with the project files. He studied them intently all day, discovering that while the product boasted advanced technology, it was far from invincible in the market. Especially with the fierce competition in smart homes lately, building brand awareness would be a formidable challenge.
“To break through, one must forge a new path,” he murmured, determination flashing in his eyes.
Silent Support
Late at night, the office was empty except for Xu Yunchuan, who remained hunched over his computer. Suddenly, soft footsteps came from the doorway. He looked up to see Shen Qingwan standing there, holding a cup of coffee.
“Working late?” Shen Qingwan walked in and set the coffee on his desk.
“President Shen?” Xu Yunchuan was surprised. “You haven’t gone home yet?”
Shen Qingwan smiled gently, leaning against the desk. “I just came out of a meeting and decided to check in. I heard you’re in charge of the new product’s promotion. Any ideas so far?”
Xu Yunchuan hesitated, then candidly replied, “There are a few directions, but I’m still verifying their feasibility. The product’s positioning is good, but compared to existing competitors, it has no absolute advantage.”
Shen Qingwan nodded thoughtfully. “Your analysis is correct. But sometimes, market success depends not only on the product itself but on how well you tell its story.”
“Tell a story?” Xu Yunchuan pondered.
“Yes. For example, through advertising, craft a lifestyle image that makes users feel choosing our product means choosing a higher quality of life.”
Her words struck Xu Yunchuan like a revelation. His eyes gradually lit up. “I understand now! Thank you for your guidance, President Shen.”
She smiled softly. “No need to thank me. If you deliver a good plan, it’s the greatest help to the company.”
The Wisdom of Counterattack
Three days later, Xu Yunchuan stood before the large screen in the conference room, presenting his promotional plan to the marketing executives. He proposed the core concept of “High-End Intelligent Living” and unveiled a series of captivating advertising ideas:
1. A thematic commercial centered on the daily life of a family of four, showcasing the convenience of smart home features while weaving in a warm family atmosphere to evoke emotional resonance.
2. Social media interaction through a “Smart Life Experience Ambassador” campaign, inviting consumers to try the product and share their experiences, fostering word-of-mouth promotion.
3. An offline experience pavilion: pop-up stores in urban shopping districts offering immersive spaces where consumers can personally feel the allure of smart home technology.
The plan was clear in structure and rich in creativity; the storytelling aspect of the commercial especially caught everyone’s attention.
After the presentation, silence fell over the room. Moments later, several executives nodded in approval.
“Not bad. This is a very complete and innovative plan,” commented a marketing director.
However, Li Haifeng snorted coldly. “The creativity is good, but how about the budget? Is the company willing to allocate such high expenses to the marketing department?”
Xu Yunchuan had anticipated this and replied calmly, “I’ve coordinated with the supply chain and finance departments. By consolidating resources, the actual budget is 15% lower than expected. Details are included in the appendix.”
Li Haifeng’s face darkened; he was speechless.
Hidden Arrows in the Workplace
With the plan approved, Xu Yunchuan’s efforts earned recognition from his colleagues, but Li Haifeng’s hostility only grew. Secretly, he instructed a department supervisor to find an opportunity to “teach Xu Yunchuan a lesson.”
Within days, Xu Yunchuan found an inexplicable email in his work inbox containing a clearly erroneous document with his name listed as the responsible party.
“Looks like someone’s restless,” he sneered, printing the email and preparing a detailed clarification report.
At the department meeting, he took the initiative to confront Li Haifeng. “Manager Li, there’s a problem with the source of this document. I’ve traced the error to a colleague’s careless operation, and it’s not my responsibility. I have specific records and evidence here.”
He handed over the files.
Li Haifeng’s face shifted between pale and flushed but could only wave him off. “If it’s a misunderstanding, then forget it.”
Though the incident seemed settled, Xu Yunchuan knew well that the workplace’s hidden arrows never ceased, and he must remain vigilant at all times.
Breakthroughs and Crises
In the following weeks, Xu Yunchuan’s promotional plan was gradually implemented, and the new product’s market response exceeded expectations. Company executives even publicly acknowledged his capabilities, gradually solidifying his position in the marketing department.
However, just as he thought everything was on track, unexpected news arrived: a competitor was about to release a similar product with better pricing.
“As expected, this battle is far from over,” Xu Yunchuan drew a deep breath and vowed quietly, “This time, I will not lose!”
