Chapter 75 Shameless and Unabashed
The great demon himself had spoken, so Ning Xianyu dared not move again. She crouched aggrievedly by the door and whispered, “Master, I have come to beg a favor of you.”
Having finally finished speaking, she realized how uncomfortable it was to keep crouching like this. So she simply sat down, landing right on the threshold.
Elder Bu Jiao burst out laughing.
This female disciple was truly amusing—she dared to behave this way even in front of the Grandmaster. No wonder the Grandmaster favored her.
Ning Xianyu also found her impressive; this was the first person she’d seen who dared to laugh so unrestrainedly before the great demon.
She recognized this as the Third Elder, Bu Jiao, that remarkable woman who had attained enlightenment by divining the sequence of the stars.
This was someone who could answer her questions about the future, someone she needed to win over. So she looked up and gave Elder Bu Jiao a sweet smile.
Elder Bu Jiao was taken aback for a moment, then smiled back at her.
The two exchanged smiles, each beaming at the other, leaving the rest of the room perplexed.
Xuan Yuan Tunhan, in particular, was seething with jealousy.
With so many people in the room, why smile only at Bu Jiao? Even Du Juezi, the sect leader, she merely called ‘the old bull’, so why treat Bu Jiao so differently?
Xuan Yuan Tunhan glanced at Bu Jiao, then cast a cold look at Ning Xianyu. “Out.”
Out?
“Alright then, enjoy your conversation.”
Ning Xianyu was eager to leave anyway, so this felt like a pardon. She hurried toward the exit.
But before she could get out, the great demon, seeing how delighted she was, grew displeased.
“Come back!”
“…Fine, I understand.” For the sake of her life, Ning Xianyu gritted her teeth and endured, obediently returning and fixing her wide curious eyes upon him.
Her puppy-like, adorable gaze failed to move him in the slightest. The utterly unfeeling man simply pointed to the edge of the couch.
“Sit here!”
Wasn’t this a little humiliating?
The other elders all watched his antics. Seeing this disciple called here and there, yet remaining so good-natured, they started to understand why the Grandmaster treated her so differently.
She was obedient, clever, and adorable. Though her skin was a bit thick, she was indeed easy to command.
Yet, making her sit by the couch like a spirit beast was perhaps going too far.
They thought that even if Ning Xianyu didn’t protest, at the very least her expression ought to change.
But she was utterly carefree—not only was she not angry, she even skipped cheerfully over.
She sat by the couch, perfectly at ease, and tidied up the robe that Xuan Yuan Tunhan had draped down.
Everyone stared at her, but she pretended not to notice. Sitting beside the sect’s most feared Grandmaster, she seemed more at home than ever.
Xuan Yuan Tunhan told Du Juezi to continue as if she wasn’t even there.
Du Juezi glanced at Ning Xianyu again, then spoke. “Grandmaster, there has been some disturbance at Mount Ten Directions. Nian Laisheng has written, hoping you might go take a look.”
“When you were away, I intended to refuse on your behalf, but now that you’ve returned, what do you think…”
Xuan Yuan Tunhan closed his eyes and replied lazily, “In a few days, I’ll go. Tell Nian Laisheng to stop making such a fuss.”
Du Juezi agreed, saying he would reply at once.
Ning Xianyu watched the two with curiosity.
So the two sects could communicate even over such distance? How did they do it? She wanted to know.
Meanwhile, Du Juezi continued reporting on what had happened in the sect while Xuan Yuan Tunhan was away.
For example, after they’d left Flower Melody Island, the Yin Mountain Sect fought with Cloud Swallowing Sea. There were no casualties, but both sides agreed to settle things at the once-in-a-decade sect tournament.
This time, during the Blossom Festival at Flower Melody Island, three disciples from Jade Immortal Sect had formed partnerships with disciples from Flower Melody. Now, they’d already set out on their journeys together.
This was the custom of the Blossom Festival: after forming dual cultivation partnerships, the pair would venture out together to train and cultivate. When both had stabilized their Dao, they would part ways and return to their respective sects.
Ning Xianyu had previously inquired about Flower Melody’s customs and thought it was like a traveling marriage—going on a honeymoon disguised as training.
Only, after the honeymoon, other couples returned to live together, while here, they divorced immediately upon return.
What a bizarre custom.
As she listened to the gossip, Ning Xianyu grew bored. She took out some snacks and drinks from her storage pouch and began to eat and drink.
She had no wine, so she had to make do with juice and celestial nectar. Fortunately, these were quite tasty, and she was content.
Eating too much spirit fruit got dull, so she took out one that resembled a potato, sliced it thinly with spiritual power, and roasted the slices.
A little burnt!
Not as delicious as fried, but with some seasoning, still pretty good.
Crunching away, she considered finding a chef to experiment—maybe they could invent potato chips, and if she could get fizzy drinks too, that would be perfect.
If only her system returned, she could ask whether it was possible to watch dramas here. That would be the pinnacle of enjoyment.
She munched happily, but the sect master and other elders stared at her wide-eyed.
What kind of person was this, daring to eat like this before the Grandmaster?
Look at her! No decorum at all, eating whatever she pleased.
Golden Core cultivators no longer needed actual food, and she was at Nascent Soul stage, yet still so gluttonous.
But since the Grandmaster had no objection, they certainly dared not say a word.
Still, they could see clearly how well the Grandmaster treated Ning Xianyu.
This was not just kindness, it was sheer indulgence.
When the reports were finished, Bu Jiao spoke up, “The Lingchu Secret Realm has opened. I’ve instructed the junior disciples to enter for training tomorrow. Grandmaster, would you like to observe?”
At this, Ning Xianyu’s ears perked up.
Xuan Yuan Tunhan replied indifferently, “We’ll see.”
That likely meant he wouldn’t go. Bu Jiao was unconcerned and withdrew.
Seeing there was nothing else to report, Du Juezi asked, “Grandmaster, a few days ago the disciples sensed a great surge of spiritual power to the northwest. We sent scouts to investigate, but found nothing. This…”
Such an anomaly ought to be investigated, surely?
Xuan Yuan Tunhan said, “No need to worry. It’s nothing important.”
As one of those ‘unimportant’ people, Ning Xianyu was wholly unconcerned—though she wondered if Yi Tianling felt the same.
With nothing left to discuss, Du Juezi quickly led the elders out.
As soon as they’d gone, Ning Xianyu stowed away her food and drink and knelt to beg, “Grandmaster, I wish to participate in the Lingchu Secret Realm trial.”
Xuan Yuan Tunhan’s eyes widened slightly. He sneered, “What, just looking to show off?”
Ning Xianyu smiled. “Not at all. I simply wish to hone my skills, so I don’t end up with nothing but spiritual power and no ability to use it. Otherwise, I might embarrass you in the future when I’m working at your side.”
As if she were really that considerate.
Xuan Yuan Tunhan shot her a look full of disbelief. “Tell the truth!”
Ning Xianyu immediately caved. “Fine, I just want to show off, win a prize, and maybe find some treasure. Please, let me go.”
