Chapter 137: The Great Demon Lord Is Turning Into a Cat
Ning Xianyu had no idea how long she had been unconscious before she suddenly jolted awake.
"I keep feeling like someone is cursing me."
She rubbed her neck, overcome with the distinct sensation that she had been chased and berated for a long time. Looking around, she found herself in a spacious cave dwelling. It was beautifully excavated, fully furnished, and stocked with every necessity. She only remembered being snatched by something; how did she end up in such a bizarre place the moment she opened her eyes?
"System, what happened?"
The system sighed, "You were kidnapped."
"By whom?"
"I don't know. Whoever grabbed you dumped you here and vanished, so I never saw who it was."
Ning Xianyu rose and explored the dwelling. Seeing bookshelves, a bed, and even a kitchen, she felt the place was surprisingly grounded. She had never seen a cultivator’s home that included a kitchen. The dwelling wasn't entirely buried underground; in the center, there was an opening in the ceiling that allowed sunlight to stream in, keeping the space bright. Furthermore, fresh flowers grew along the stone walls, creating a cozy atmosphere.
After walking a full circle, Ning Xianyu was filled with envy. If she ever had her own cave dwelling, she wanted it to be exactly like this: sunny, beautiful, vibrant, and fully equipped. She headed toward the exit, but when she tried to leave, she was blocked. A barrier stood in her way, making it impossible to pass.
Ning Xianyu grew anxious; she did not want to stay here.
"System, think of a way."
The system replied bluntly, "Use the Qiankun Sword. One strike and any barrier will be nothing."
"...You're trying to get me killed."
Using the Qiankun Sword on ordinary objects was fine, but if she used it to break through barriers or space, who knew if it would kill her? Besides...
"Wait, where is my Qiankun Sword?"
Ning Xianyu checked her person and discovered the sword was missing. She had everything else, but the blade was gone.
"How shameless, to actually steal my sword!"
Ning Xianyu was furious. She decided that whoever captured her was a scoundrel, and this lovely dwelling was surely not maintained by that jerk himself.
The system didn't know where the sword had gone, but it knew how to help its host. "You can make a wish now. Do you want to wish your way out?"
After a month, the ability to make a wish had finally returned, and the system was even more excited than Ning Xianyu. She was indeed happy, but also conflicted.
"I had planned to wish for a body for you, but the situation is urgent, so your turn will have to wait."
"I appreciate the thought, but please abandon that idea. Just let me be a good system in peace."
"Hahaha, you're so humorous."
That wretched system had already ruined her; she probably wouldn't be a "good" system in this lifetime. Ning Xianyu decided to postpone the wish, wanting first to figure out who her captor was and what their purpose might be. Once she understood the situation, she would decide on the wish; since she could only make one a month, she couldn't afford to waste the opportunity on a bad choice.
The system agreed. "But don't you still want to reverse the spell that turned Xuanyuan Tunhan into a cat? Do you want to wish for that?"
At the mention of the Great Demon Lord, Ning Xianyu’s teeth itched with hatred. "I treated him like a boss, and he actually wanted to use me to mend the heavens! Stinky Great Demon Lord, evil Great Demon Lord—I won't help him turn back. I want him to stay a cat."
Wondering if she could turn the Great Demon Lord into a cat from a distance, she sat on a stool and focused intently: *Great Demon Lord turns into a cat, Great Demon Lord turns into a cat...*
After a while, feeling nothing and having no idea if it had worked, she gave up.
Meanwhile, back at Shifang Mountain, Xuanyuan Tunhan stared at his paws, feeling an urge to kill. *Ning Xianyu, you have a lot of nerve. Just you wait for me—once I catch you, I’ll show you how you’re going to die!*
Xuanyuan Tunhan crouched on the ground for a while, realizing he couldn't return in this state, and decided to find a place to hide until he transformed back.
Just then, Su Yun'er happened to be out gathering dew from flowers when she spotted a fierce-looking little black cat crouched under the bushes.
"Why is there a cat here?"
Su Yun'er thought the cat was beautiful, picked it up, stroked its fur, and headed back. She wanted to tell Brother Yi that she wished to keep it. With proper care and spiritual medicine, she believed the cat would soon develop intelligence and perhaps even cultivate into human form. But before she could imagine what the cat might look like as a person, it suddenly leaped from her arms, darted into the grass, and vanished.
"Oh, what a pity."
Seeing the cat run away, Su Yun'er gave up on the idea, thinking she would keep a different spirit pet in the future. Still feeling reluctant, she wandered in the direction the cat had run, only to suddenly find Xuanyuan Tunhan lying in the grass.
"Ancestor, Senior, what happened to you?" Why was he lying there? Was he injured?
"This Seat is... fine." Xuanyuan Tunhan grit his teeth. He wanted to find Ning Xianyu and tear her to shreds. *This woman has grown bold; not only did she run away, but she dared to mock me? Just you wait!*
Su Yun'er asked, "Senior, have you found Senior Ning? Where did she go?"
Xuanyuan Tunhan said coldly, "I am just about to find her." He flicked his sleeves and told Su Yun'er to lead the way; he needed to find Yi Tianling.
Confused, Su Yun'er led him to Yi Tianling, who was currently contemplating how to absorb the pure flame energy from the Flame-Eater Stone. Seeing them enter, Xuanyuan Tunhan knew exactly what he was doing.
"I will teach you how to absorb the flame essence from it. Once absorbed, give the stone to me. It is a shard of the Heaven-Mending Stone, and I have use for it."
Yi Tianling was stunned. "You say this is a shard of the Heaven-Mending Stone?"
He had already obtained one such stone; why hadn't his system told him? Was the system keeping secrets from him, too?
Xuanyuan Tunhan nodded. "This stone is important. I need it after you absorb the power."
Yi Tianling said quickly, "Of course, but will my absorption affect the stone's ability to mend the heavens?" He wanted power, but if it hindered saving lives, what was the point?
Xuanyuan Tunhan looked at him with newfound respect. To be able to consider the greater good instead of personal gain at such a moment—Yi Tianling was truly capable of great things.
"Do not worry, it will not affect it. The Heaven-Mending Stone shattered and scattered, gaining its own providence over the long years. Absorbing the energy that does not belong to the stone itself will not hinder its primary function."
He wanted the shard because he intended to use its resonance with Ning Xianyu to track her down.
