Chapter 111: The Target is Xuanyuan Tunhan
Xuanyuan Tunhan’s sword was gathering spiritual power; he intended to level everything here with a single strike.
Watching his figure, Yi Tianling could not help but exclaim, "Is this the existence of the strongest in this world?"
Even when facing adversity, he charged forward without hesitation, wasting no words and focused solely on his objective.
The System remarked, "He is only being dashing for now. In a while, he will suffer a backlash. You see how he remains unconscious during the day? That must be because he forcibly broke through the prohibitions."
Yi Tianling replied, "To know the consequences and have already suffered a backlash, yet still charge forward—this is what a true powerhouse is."
The System felt he had become muddled, wondering why he was always praising others. "As long as you listen to me, one day, you will be even stronger than him."
Yi Tianling remained silent for a long time. There was always a strange feeling in his heart, and he was always selective in believing what the System said. The System's philosophy seemed to always be at odds with his own, and now that feeling was even more pronounced.
Xuanyuan Tunhan roared, "Since you refuse, then let us fight! To the death, with no end!"
His sword descended slowly. Though it was slow, the atmosphere grew heavier with every inch it fell. It felt as if a force of ten thousand tons was pressing down from the sky, aiming to flatten, crush, and pulverize every living thing here.
Yi Tianling also felt the immense pressure; had his willpower not been so firm, he feared he would have long since been unable to breathe. Xuanyuan Tunhan truly meant it when he said to the death; he was not joking. Blood dripped continuously from the corner of his mouth, and his face was as pale as a ghost, yet his eyes remained exceptionally resolute.
Just then, a helpless voice sounded from the shadows: "Stop. Although you will not die, your cultivation will regress sharply."
Xuanyuan Tunhan did not stop; instead, he accelerated his movements.
The voice became more anxious: "Must you really do this? She is but a lowly cultivator."
Xuanyuan Tunhan responded with only three words: "Return the person!"
His movements quickened, and the voice finally sighed: "Very well, take her back."
As the voice faded, Ning Xianyu was tossed back. The vines, filled with rage, threw her with great force and brutality. Her head grazed the tips of the trees, scraping her face; had there been no one to catch her, she likely would have crashed into the thicket and been injured.
Xuanyuan Tunhan withdrew his sword and moved toward the direction she was falling, catching her in his arms just before she hit the ground. Ning Xianyu knew nothing of what had transpired and remained deep in slumber. There was a wound on her face, and blood was flowing.
Xuanyuan Tunhan spat out a mouthful of blood. He wiped it with his black robe, but two drops still landed on her face. She frowned and smacked her lips, as if saying she was hungry.
"What a fool."
Xuanyuan Tunhan wiped her face with a look of disdain, then picked her up and turned, saying coldly, "If you wish to live in peace, I advise you to cause no more trouble. Otherwise, this space need not exist."
He leaped onto the branches holding her and left the forest in a few bounds. Yi Tianling followed closely behind, casting a grave look back at the ruined forest.
Returning to the wooden hut halfway up the mountain, he placed her inside, and Xuanyuan Tunhan immediately changed his clothes. Looking at the still-sleeping Ning Xianyu, he said, "Watch over her during the day. Tell her what happened yesterday and tell her not to wander around."
Yi Tianling agreed and then asked, "Senior, are you unable to hold on anymore?"
Xuanyuan Tunhan said he would be fine soon, adding, "It is just that we cannot stay in this space any longer. Tomorrow evening, I will find a way to leave."
Yi Tianling asked, "Was it not said we had to wait for the full moon? Does Senior have another method?"
He said he did, and after speaking, he chased the other man out and lay down beside Ning Xianyu. He held her tightly, and his soul instantly entered her spiritual sea.
His soul was burning, and raging flames fell onto the ground like liquid, scorching a patch of grass. In her sleep, Ning Xianyu felt the pain and let out a soft moan.
Xuanyuan Tunhan struggled toward the tree, and the little red figure, seeing his state, retreated slightly. Only when he finally touched the tree did the flames on his body gradually extinguish. The little red figure hopped onto Xuanyuan Tunhan's head, absorbing all the flames, and its body turned a brilliant red.
Xuanyuan Tunhan lay on a branch and sighed. The Nine-Branch Epiphyllum in her soul seemed to be growing even better than before, its effect even greater. Who exactly was this woman? Why did these stones feel such an affinity for her? Could the legendary mender of the heavens truly exist?
Xuanyuan Tunhan gazed at the sky, listening to the sound of the waves, and gradually drifted into a dream.
Outside in the forest, that figure wandered through the trees, soothing them: "Do not be anxious. They only destroyed your bodies, not your roots; you will grow back in a few years."
"Do not fear him. He is not a man who slaughters the innocent. As long as you can trap him here for ten thousand years, you too can survive for another ten thousand. What is wrong with that?"
The vines slowly calmed down, but there was still a rustling sound in the forest; the trees were still very displeased.
The figure then said, "I did not wish for this either, but if he is not trapped, who else can take on that task?"
He looked at the sky and sighed, "This world does not have many ten-thousand-year cycles left. His inner demons are too heavy; he cannot suppress the demonic entities. You must help him purify himself."
Early the next morning, as soon as Ning Xianyu woke up, she felt pain in her face, a crushing weight on her body, and aching arms.
"My face—ah, it hurts! What is this stuff on me? Did I go out thieving in the middle of the night?"
She was covered in green sap, her face burned with stinging pain, and when she rolled up her sleeves, she could see bruises on her arms. What the hell? She knew this place was unreliable; had they been abused while they were unconscious?
At this moment, the System cried: "You finally woke up! You have no idea how thrilling last night was; it was so terrifying and so moving!"
Ning Xianyu thought it had gone mad. "Terrifying and moving? Did you watch a ghost story?"
The System said: "No, no! You were kidnapped last night. You don't know how thrilling it was at the time; let me tell you slowly..."
The System was long-winded and loved to tell stories. This took an hour. Ning Xianyu was left stunned: "Is the big demon you're talking about the same big demon I know?"
Charging forward for her, having such a handsome, brave, and moving moment—and she was unconscious for it? How could that be believable?
"Tell me, why would the big demon be so good to me?"
Even Ning Xianyu could not help but ask herself why the big demon would treat her so well.
The System said quite seriously: "To be honest, I think he might have actually fallen in love with you."
But Ning Xianyu thought: "I think he's probably just afraid that if I die, he won't be able to get rid of that habit of turning into a cat."
To make her believe she was loved by a hundred-thousand-year-old iceberg? She would rather row a sheepskin raft into an iceberg. Impossible, absolutely impossible—the big demon must have some ulterior motive.
