Chapter 102: The Fox Spirit

The System giggled and said, “The Great Devil has two powerful legs. He’s so strong that protecting both of you would be no problem at all. Why don’t the two of you become sisters?”
Ning Xianyu really wanted to pry out its processor and give it a good knock.
“I already told you, I’d rather die than enter someone else’s harem.”
Hmph. Two tigers could not share one mountain unless one was male and the other female. In any case, she could not tolerate anyone trying to steal her powerful patron.
The System seized the opportunity to persuade her. “Haven’t you always wanted to stop following the Great Devil? If he becomes utterly enchanted by the White Lotus, and she schemes to drive you away, wouldn’t you be free?”
This…
This really was an excellent idea.
Ning Xianyu felt that the System was right. She looked at the White Lotus, who was still exhausting herself trying to curry favor with the Great Devil, and began cheering her on inwardly.
Come on, White Lotus. You can do it.
Xuanyuan Tunhan glanced at her, utterly unable to understand what went on inside her head.
Were people from that world all this inexplicable?
He looked at the White Lotus as well and gave a soft snort.
Ning Xianyu soon discovered that, from then on, the White Lotus truly did put in even more effort.
Moreover, she began trying to edge Ning Xianyu out.
“Elder Sister Ni, Senior has worked so hard. Let’s help him tidy this place up.”
“Oh, Elder Sister Ni, what are you doing? If you don’t want to do it, I can do it myself.”
With reddened eyes, she clutched her scraped hand and looked toward Xuanyuan Tunhan.
“Senior, Elder Sister Ni didn’t do it on purpose. Please don’t blame her. She may simply be too tired.”
Xuanyuan Tunhan looked at her, then at Ning Xianyu, and felt that the situation had become absurdly divided.
Ning Xianyu said, her face filled with grievance and anger, “Who hurt you? Don’t falsely accuse me.”
Yet inwardly, she was cheering with delight: White Lotus, beautifully done. Keep it up!
The White Lotus walked over with a pitiful expression. “I misspoke. Please don’t be angry, Sister. I won’t say it again.”
As she spoke, she reached out as though to grab Ning Xianyu’s arm.
The System shouted, “Push her! Push her hard!”
Ning Xianyu caught on a moment later and suddenly shoved her. “Who’s your sister? Get lost!”
The White Lotus fell to the ground at once, sprawled there in misery, looking as though she might burst into tears at any moment. What a pitiful White Lotus.
“Host, beautifully done!” the System exclaimed, nearly applauding.
Who would have thought that she would be so skilled at playing a vicious supporting villainess?
Ning Xianyu herself felt she had performed wonderfully, but outwardly she still had to look ferocious. “What are you pretending for? I barely used any strength.”

The White Lotus hurriedly climbed to her feet and said woefully, “I’m sorry. I simply lost my balance.”
Though she apologized with tearful eyes, she was actually looking at Xuanyuan Tunhan.
Xuanyuan Tunhan felt even more divided than he had back when he had been suffering from inner demons.
The woman’s performance was truly clumsy, but it was also rather interesting.
He decided to watch a little longer.
He said nothing. With a wave of his hand, he used only spiritual energy to steady the White Lotus on her feet.
The White Lotus was secretly overjoyed. It seemed Senior truly cared about her and believed her.
Wonderful. She had made some progress.
Ning Xianyu was so shocked by the scene that her jaw nearly dropped.
That lecherous Great Devil! He had seen a pretty woman and immediately lost all sense of propriety. He was utterly shameless. The moment he saw a beautiful woman, he forgot his own name.
“Hmph, you actually believe her, you vixen!”
She turned and walked away, deliberately moving ahead of them, her back radiating indignation.
Great Devil, you lecher!
Seeing her anger, Xuanyuan Tunhan thought her performance was quite convincing.
The White Lotus said, “Senior, I seem to have made Sister angry. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset her.”
Xuanyuan Tunhan snorted and walked away as well, evidently displeased.
The White Lotus followed with a guilty expression, but inwardly she was ecstatic.
She had never imagined that the relationship between the two could be so poor, or that it could be ruined so quickly.
It seemed this was merely a temporary arrangement between them, something they had entered into just for amusement.
The White Lotus asked for nothing more. She only hoped that this powerful man would take her away from this accursed place, or at least leave behind something useful to her.
Besides, this was a magical formation, and many people had died here. That woman called Ni Dajie was useless. She might as well be kept as nourishment.
The sinister smile on the White Lotus’s face vanished in an instant. Soon, she once again followed Xuanyuan Tunhan with an obsequious and innocent expression.
After walking for some time, the three of them accidentally entered a strange forest.
All the trees in the forest stood in perfectly orderly rows. Whether viewed horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, they were arranged with absolute precision.
Ning Xianyu studied them from every angle and realized that this was practically a forest planted by someone with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
“How were these trees planted? They’re far too orderly.”
The White Lotus came over to her and warned, “Elder Sister Ni, don’t touch these trees. They’re very dangerous.”
As she spoke, however, she secretly gave Ning Xianyu a push.
Caught completely off guard, Ning Xianyu was shoved against one of the trees.

Immediately afterward, she felt herself stick to the tree.
She struggled with both hands and feet, trying to pull herself free, but it was useless.
Worse still, she had hit the tree face-first, so her face was buried in the trunk and she could not make a sound.
Behind her, the White Lotus continued shouting, “Elder Sister Ni! Elder Sister Ni, what happened to you? Senior, come quickly!”
After Xuanyuan Tunhan arrived, she continued, “I told Sister not to go near these trees, but she wouldn’t listen. She insisted on touching them. What should we do now?”
Xuanyuan Tunhan seized Ning Xianyu by her clothes and yanked her free with a sudden burst of strength.
Once she was out, however, he stared at her in stunned silence.
Ning Xianyu also sensed that something was wrong and touched her face.
“What happened to my face?”
She could no longer feel anything when she touched it. It felt like a piece of wood.
She took out a mirror and looked at herself, only to discover that her face had truly turned into wood.
“My face…”
She tried to speak, but even her voice had become stiff and rigid.
The White Lotus said innocently, “I told you just now that you mustn’t touch them. As soon as someone touches one of these trees, their face gradually begins turning into wood.”
Ning Xianyu thought, You never said that! And you were the one who shoved me into it.
The White Lotus truly lived up to her name. She was vicious beyond words.
The White Lotus continued, “But don’t worry. As long as you leave the forest before your entire body turns to wood, you’ll return to normal. Come on, we have to go. You’ll be fine.”
Ning Xianyu was frantic and immediately began walking.
She did not want to remain a wooden person forever.
Xuanyuan Tunhan gave the White Lotus a long, profound look. She hurriedly explained, “I’m sorry. I failed to keep an eye on Elder Sister Ni. I should have warned her sooner.”
He said nothing, but intentionally or otherwise, he positioned himself between the two women, no longer giving the White Lotus any opportunity to approach Ning Xianyu.
Ning Xianyu was desperate. She kept walking forward, but the forest seemed to stretch on forever, with no end in sight.
Everywhere she looked, in every direction, there were rows upon rows of perfectly aligned trees.
Then she suddenly realized in horror that every one of those trees was completely identical. Even the branching of their limbs and the arrangement of their leaves were exactly the same.
This was no forest meant to soothe obsessive-compulsive disorder. It was a nightmare designed to kill anyone with a fear of clustered patterns.
