Gao Yuting used the excuse of preparing soup for the young madam to drag Gu Xiaoxiao and the others away, claiming a need for a bathroom break. Once she reached the kitchen and saw several burly men trailing her, Gao Yuting was nearly in tears; her own brother clearly refused to let her go.

Oh, how miserable!

Gu Xiao, on the other hand, felt a twinge of envy at the close bond between the siblings. Thinking of her own brother, whose remains had not even been recovered, her gaze dimmed.

A loud rumble echoed from Gao Yuting’s stomach, drawing the attention of the three others, who couldn’t help but glance repeatedly at her midsection.

“I’m hungry!” she declared.

“You didn’t have breakfast this morning?” someone asked.

“I did, but I wasn’t full.”

Gu Xiaoxiao was speechless—after all that commotion this morning, she still managed to eat.

Gu Li kept his distance from Fubao, watching as the little girl clutched a crayfish that was already foaming at the mouth. He glanced at his own swollen paw and decided it was best to stay away. Before long, a plump nanny entered, ready to prepare food for the group. The young master had instructed her to make sure the young miss ate well, so they could welcome the dish “Bamboo Board Stir-Fried Pork” once the young madam safely delivered her child.

While the nanny was preparing ingredients, Fubao slipped out from the side, lifting her little face. “Nanny, I heard from Sister Xiaocui that you’re the best chef in the manor, and your dishes are delicious!” Fubao flattered her.

The nanny was delighted by this sweet-talking girl and, feeling happy, said, “Come! Let me show you a trick.”

“Can you make this?” Fubao immediately handed over the crayfish, her eyes shining.

The nanny, seeing the plump girl’s crayfish, was speechless. This was a bit of a challenge—what even was this creature?

She stubbornly believed it was some kind of bug and refused to put it in the pot. Gu Xiaoxiao, thinking the little girl was causing trouble again, pulled her aside. “Fubao, stop making trouble! Can’t you see the nanny is preparing the meal?”

“Auntie, I want to eat this!” Fubao held up the crayfish to Gu Xiaoxiao, making her desire clear.

Looking at the limp, whiskered, thoroughly dead crayfish, Gu Xiaoxiao was exasperated. This girl thought only of eating, every single day.

“No, you can’t eat that.”

“But Sister Gao ate it!”

“Call me Auntie.”

“Oh! Aunt Gao ate it!”

Gu Xiaoxiao raised her eyebrows at Gao Yuting. “How could I possibly eat such a thing?” Gao Yuting insisted she would never eat bugs, and everyone nodded in agreement—even a dog wouldn’t touch it.

No one noticed that one person’s expression was a little unnatural.

“But Aunt Gao smells like crayfish,” Fubao observed, turning to Gu Xiaoxiao.

“That’s because she just came from the pond,” Gu Xiaoxiao explained.

“That’s not true. A few crayfish told me earlier that a lady knows how to catch them and even ate several of their brothers and sisters,” Fubao pouted, recalling what a chubby crayfish had said to her by the pond.

Gu Xiaoxiao was speechless. Was something wrong with this kid?

“Fubao, what are you talking about? You’re saying the strangest things,” Gu Li remarked, feeling the girl was a bit odd.

Though others found her words strange, Gao Yuting, who understood the implication, asked Fubao in a deep voice, “Are you saying I’ve eaten this before?”

Fubao turned her head. “Yes! Auntie, don’t you know? You definitely ate it!” Aunt Gao was not being honest.

Gao Yuting was speechless.

Before she could respond, her maid grew anxious. “Miss, your meals are always personally prepared by your servant. There’s no way there could be a problem, and besides, this is a bug! How could we ever serve it to you?” Lian’er, Gao Yuting’s maid, protested.

Gao Yuting ignored her and asked the nanny, “Nanny, has the kitchen added any dishes these days?”

“Miss, no, still the usual seven dishes every day,” replied the nanny, who had already sensed the strange atmosphere and now dared not even cook.

Gu Xiaoxiao was speechless—seven dishes per meal, and she still complained of hunger!

Gu Li was equally stunned—this big sister could really eat!

Fubao: How is this crayfish supposed to be cooked?
