“Cousin, what are you doing? Hurry and go see how Master Yu is doing!”
“I think it would be better if we didn’t go over there,” Gong Shaoyu said firmly after swallowing hard.
“Hm?” Gu Li was puzzled. Before he could ask anything, he sensed something falling from above. He darted out of the way, and in the next instant, a wolf came plummeting down from the sky—
Landing in an intimate embrace with Gong Shaoyu!
The wolf cub’s red eyes met Gong Shaoyu’s in a terrifying four-eyed stare.
Gong Shaoyu froze in fright and promptly fainted.
The wolf had been thrown over and had not yet had time to recover when it turned its head and spotted another tender-faced young man nearby. It was just about to let out a joyful howl when—
“Gu Yun, hurry and hold it down!”
“Where did Gu Yun go?”
“He hasn’t caught up yet?”
“If anything happens to my cousin, Gu Yun, don’t even think about getting paid—”
Gu Yun had just crawled out of the bushes. The moment he heard that there would be no wages, his body stiffened.
No wages. What would happen to me without wages? I wouldn’t be able to afford food, or a place to stay…
His thoughts began looping endlessly.
“Gu Yun, why are you still standing there?” Gu Li turned around and nearly died of exasperation when he saw Gu Yun hiding in a corner. If he wasted any more time, his cousin would be finished!
Gu Yun rubbed his fingers together, making a suggestive gesture.
“I’ll increase your wages!” Gu Li said through clenched teeth.
“Deal!”
Gu Yun tossed the dead wolf from his back to one side and prepared to pounce on the wolf leaping about atop Gong Shaoyu.
But then—
Clang!
A familiar figure suddenly blocked his path, holding a large cooking pot.
The wolf, which had been howling happily, was knocked unconscious by Fu Bao with a single blow from the pot.
Gu Li: “…”
Gu Yun: “What about my wages?”
“Hahaha! This pot is pretty useful,” Fu Bao said.
“Right? Right? I keep it to protect myself in emergencies. Hehe!”
Fu Bao chatted with the Chen family’s young miss while casually weighing the pot in her hand. It had a satisfying heft.

“Oh, right! Just give those wages directly to me. You can even give me a friendly rate—one tael of silver will do!” Fu Bao turned around and said to Gu Li.
Gu Li: “…”
Gu Yun: My money!
After a long while, Gu Li finally dragged Gong Shaoyu out from beneath the wolf that had landed on him.
What a tragedy!
“Wow! That was amazing!”
“Master Yu was hiding his true abilities all along! He looks like such a delicate and handsome scholar—how can he be so cool?”
“Who would have thought he had such strength? He really was keeping a low profile!”
Gu Li stared speechlessly at the three people muttering from inside the pile of grass.
At that moment, Master Yu was displaying his might to the fullest. Amid cries of “Heh-ha!” “Ya-ha!” and the donkey’s frantic braying, another wolf was sent flying by the large cooking pot in Master Yu’s hands.
Gu Li: “…”
Where had that cooking pot come from, anyway?
…
Fu Bao and the others only bounded over to Master Yu after the wolf pack had retreated. He was still standing there, flourishing the pot and striking heroic poses.
“Master, something’s wrong,” Gong Shaoyu said. “Why is your face so red? Could you have taken the wrong medicine?”
“He doesn’t look sick. He looks more like he’s been drinking,” Gu Li said after peering at him from one side and then the other, stroking his chin.
“Drinking? How could there be wine here? Surely not,” Gong Shaoyu said. Nobody here drank alcohol.
“Eek, it’s suddenly rather chilly,” the Chen family’s young miss said, rubbing her shoulders as an inexplicable cold swept over her.
“Wine? Yu Sheng, I’m going to strangle you!”
With a furious roar, Gu Yun charged at Master Yu.
But then—
Clang!
Gu Yun was defeated.
As it turned out, Master Yu had secretly drunk the strong liquor Gu Yun had painstakingly saved up to buy. How could a hunter venture out without preparing a little alcohol?
Gu Yun himself had been unwilling to drink it, only for the old thief Yu Sheng to steal it and drain the entire bottle. As if that weren’t enough, he had even used the pot lid to bash Gu Yun over the head!
Ahhh! The hunter was furious!

“Goodness! Is this really all right? Isn’t it terribly disrespectful?” the Chen family’s young miss asked, looking at Master Yu, who was tied to a tree.
“There was no other choice. The teacher was far too troublesome,” Fu Bao said with a shrug. “Besides, this liquor is incredibly strong. Who would have thought it could keep Master Yu going for so long without stopping?”
Gu Li: “…”
Something about that wording sounded wrong.
Gong Shaoyu tightened the knot around the tree trunk and dusted off his hands.
Sigh. Every time his master drank, they had to tie him up.
“It’s getting late. Let’s rest,” Gu Yun said.
“Good idea, good idea. I’m exhausted. It’s been a terrifying day,” the Chen family’s young miss muttered as she sprawled across the donkey cart.
“Come to think of it, where did those three little fellows go? They disappeared just when we found you in the forest,” she added. “It feels strange not seeing that chubby rabbit.”
“I don’t know. They probably went off to play. They’ll come back on their own tomorrow morning,” Fu Bao said.
Fu Bao knew that the three little creatures had been taken away by Ginseng. That fellow loved wandering about, especially after being cooped up in the capital for so long.
“But I feel that this place is terribly unsafe. We’re huddled together under protection, and those three don’t look very clever. What if they get caught and eaten?” The Chen family’s young miss still could not put her mind at ease.
“Don’t worry. Trust me—they won’t get lost!”
“Er… all right.”
“Relax.”
Only this time, Fu Bao had guessed wrong—
All of their pets were lost.
“Oh dear! Once I find those little rascals, I’m going to strip every last bit of fur from them!” Fu Bao was furious. They had even learned to stay out all night!
A whole crowd dragged the donkey cart across the mountains and plains, not daring to continue their journey. They first set out to find the two creatures scratching around on the ground and the one flying through the sky.
Meanwhile, somewhere else—
“Hehe, you still dare to fight me? Don’t you know who I am?”
