Chapter 112: Sneaking a Bite
“Master Yu, is that really you?” Fubao was stunned when she saw Yu Sheng—wasn’t this the same Yu Sheng who had resigned from his position as painting master? She had heard that he later took on an apprentice and traveled the world!
“Ah—You’re…” Yu Sheng, having just finished pouring his grievances to his apprentice, turned around upon hearing Fubao’s voice.
“You don’t remember me? I’m Lin Cenbao!”
“Oh! The chubby girl who’s always causing trouble!” Yu Sheng finally recognized Fubao, now grown into a young lady.
“Trouble? Not at all.” Fubao pouted, while the Miss Chen family sister chuckled quietly.
In the end, after eating a free meal, Yu Sheng was redeemed. Poor Gu Yun had only a tiny bit of secret savings left, and a few taels were spent again! Seeing Gu Li’s warning look, he could only silently whimper—Oh no, the villain!
That night, under Gu Yun’s stingy arrangements, Gu Li and the others were assigned to a miserly inn.
“Two top-tier rooms!” Gu Yun fished through his coin purse for quite some time before pulling out a few coins. Looking up at the innkeeper’s pitch-black face, he pursed his lips and handed over two more coins.
Yu Sheng thought to himself… so stingy, even stingier than him!
Miss Chen family sister… so little money, can they really stay here?
Gu Li… dragging it out.
Fubao… wondering if there’s any good food here.
Finally, Gu Li snatched the wallet and tossed it to the innkeeper, saying, “Is this enough?”
Instantly, the innkeeper smiled broadly, “Enough, enough! Please, honored guests!”
The group went upstairs, leaving Gu Yun standing there, quietly crying: Where did my secret savings go!?
---
The inn was silent at midnight, not a sound to be heard except the kitchen where the sizzling noises came from.
“Master, how long has it been since you last ate? You look starving!” Gong Shaoyu was dragged here by Yu Sheng, under the pretense of going to the restroom. But who could explain why ‘restroom’ meant entering the kitchen and eating two big bowls of noodles?
“That’s enough! Stop eating, Master, you’ll get caught!” Gong Shaoyu hurriedly grabbed Yu Sheng before he could reach for a third bowl.
“My disciple, listen to me: your master is pitiful. I lost my wallet as soon as I entered town and have been washing dishes for two days. Boohoo!” Yu Sheng clutched his bowl and began to sob.
I say, Master, with your flashy look, you surely come from money. If not you, then who would I steal from?
Since Yu Sheng resigned seven years ago, he had been wandering the world and completely let himself go!
Suddenly, someone shouted outside, “Who’s in the kitchen?”
Gong Shaoyu!!!
Yu Sheng, his mouth full of noodles, mumbled, “No one…”
Gong Shaoyu was speechless.
Just as someone was about to enter, Gong Shaoyu dragged Yu Sheng into a corner behind a pile of firewood. Luckily, the lights were off, or they would have been clearly seen!
“Huh? Did I see wrong?” The waiter, who had also stepped out to use the restroom, heard sounds and came to check.
“There was someone just now who even answered him!” The waiter grew more frightened. Could it be—the ghost with disheveled hair?
But wait, the bowls of food he had prepared for his little pig were gone.
Could someone be stealing to starve my pig? That’s terrifying!!
---
Gong Shaoyu pressed tightly over the person’s mouth beside him. With a loud “Ah!” the waiter screamed and ran out!
Huh? What just happened?
No one noticed, so they breathed a sigh of relief. But something felt off—where was the master’s beard?
“Big brother, can you let go? I still want to eat my chicken leg!” A female voice startled Gong Shaoyu almost out of his wits.
Then he saw clearly—it was Fubao and Miss Chen family sister sneaking food in the middle of the night. They grabbed a few chicken legs and slipped away!
Gu Li sat holding a cup in the room, hearing the door to the next room close.
“Don’t you know eating at night causes diarrhea?”
Sure enough, the next day, three exhausted people were pulled on a donkey cart.
“They must have been poisoned! I’m going to report this to the authorities!” Yu Sheng wailed from the donkey cart, venting his grievances.
Gong Shaoyu sighed helplessly, “Master, just behave! Who told you to sneak out and steal food in the middle of the night, eat the noodles that had been left for days, and then report it? How will you explain saying you couldn’t sleep and wanted to use the restroom but got lost and ended up eating leftover pig feed in the kitchen?”
“Ugh, don’t say it! Just thinking about having eaten two bowls of leftover food that had been sitting for days makes me nauseous!” Yu Sheng cut him off.
