Qin Xuan couldn’t help but salivate at the scent—or rather, it made him want to cry! He considered waking up Nan Zhiyi, but seeing how soundly she slept... Wouldn’t she hammer him if he woke her? Forget it, it’s not worth it.

Shaking his head, Qin Xuan had just stepped out the door when he ran into Liu Ruoxi, who was brandishing a stick!

“What’s going on here...” Qin Xuan stared in confusion at the fierce-looking Liu Ruoxi.

“Where’s Nan Zhiyi?” she demanded. She had warned her before, and yet she still dared to come! Did they really think she was someone to mess with?

“Calm down, calm down.” Qin Xuan reached out and pulled Liu Ruoxi by the waist. “I forgot to tell you all, that’s on me.”

“Hmph! I’ll hit you too!” Liu Ruoxi replied, raising the stick, but Qin Xuan reacted quickly and snatched it away.

“Why are you so hot-tempered? How are you going to raise a child in the future?” Qin Xuan rambled, leaving Liu Ruoxi a bit stunned. Was he really thinking that far ahead? She just wanted to deal with an intruder!

“So what’s she doing in your room?” Liu Ruoxi asked, her cheeks flushed.

“She’s sleeping. She was exhausted today,” Qin Xuan replied, trying to steer Liu Ruoxi away.

Liu Ruoxi struggled against him, already plotting how to deal with Nan Zhiyi later.

...

After a little over an hour, Nan Zhiyi woke up. She didn’t see Qin Xuan, but was curious about who had removed her shoes. She got off the bed, slipped her feet into her shoes, and couldn’t help but smell her socks. Damn, that’s something!

Just then, Qin Xuan pushed open the door and caught her in the act. “You’ve got quite the unique taste,” he commented.

Nan Zhiyi’s face burned as she tossed the socks aside and buried her face in the covers.

“Alright, alright, I didn’t see anything!” Qin Xuan promised. “Come on, it’s time to eat. Aren’t you hungry?”

Hearing this, Nan Zhiyi peeked her head out from under the blanket.

“Do you have any slippers?” she asked, embarrassed.

“Wait here,” Qin Xuan said, turning to fetch her slippers. Nan Zhiyi quickly snatched up her socks from the floor and eyed the trash bin, hesitating.

Moments later, Qin Xuan returned with a pair of ladies’ slippers. Seeing her hesitating with the socks in front of the trash, he instantly understood.

“How about tossing them? We can buy new ones later.”

Nan Zhiyi felt a bit off hearing this. “Are you looking down on me?”

Qin Xuan: Wasn’t it obvious?

“I was just sweating after running all day! My feet don’t stink!” Nan Zhiyi protested, which Qin Xuan found amusing.

“Alright, I believe you. Let’s eat first,” he said, turning to leave.

Nan Zhiyi was annoyed at his dismissive tone, but hurried after him as he left.

As soon as she stepped out, she was greeted by Qin Xuan’s parents in the living room, along with Qin Lin’er and the aggrieved-looking Liu Ruoxi. Liu Ruoxi had planned to eat at home but decided to stay when she saw Nan Zhiyi arrive, curious to see what she might do.

Luckily, Nan Zhiyi knew everyone there and greeted them warmly. She even shot a defiant glance back at Liu Ruoxi.

“Zhiyi, come eat,” Wang Manshu called as she brought dishes to the table, waving her over.

It was rare for everyone to sit around the table together, and Nan Zhiyi felt a bit nervous, especially under Grandma Liu’s scrutinizing gaze, which made her hair stand on end.

As Qin Jianguo sipped his wine, he struck up a conversation with Nan Zhiyi.

“How’s your father been lately?” he asked.

“He... seems fine,” Nan Zhiyi replied, unsure of Qin Uncle’s intentions.

“That’s good. I was hoping to find time for a spar with him! Back when we were in the army, we used to fight all the time—he never beat me once!” Qin Jianguo boasted.

Nan Zhiyi was puzzled. “But my dad always said he never lost to you?”

“Huh?” Qin Jianguo slammed his chopsticks down. “That’s nonsense! I pinned him to the ground and pounded him! Has he forgotten?”

He pulled out his phone, intending to call Nan Zhengyi, only to discover, to his shock, that he’d been deleted. Was this a sore loser move?

“Zhiyi, video-call him for me!” Qin Jianguo demanded, disgruntled.

Nan Zhiyi wouldn’t miss such a golden opportunity to curry favor with Uncle Qin. She found her dad in her blacklist, made a video call, and handed the phone straight to Qin Jianguo.

On the other end, Nan Zhengyi was still upset that his daughter had gone to Qin Xuan’s house. Seeing the video call, he reluctantly accepted, only to find something amiss.

“Nan Zhengyi! Are you crazy?” Qin Jianguo shouted as soon as he appeared.

“Well, what business does a loser have with me?” Nan Zhengyi replied smugly.

“Can’t you be a little more honest? You call yourself ‘Zhengyi’—Justice! You only managed to win once when I was feeling unwell, and you go boasting about it everywhere?”

“Doesn’t that count as a win? You won’t mention that you soiled your pants, will you?” Nan Zhengyi mercilessly spilled the story.

“Shut up, damn it!” Qin Jianguo was getting worked up. He could never forget that night after training, when he’d foolishly eaten a popsicle and ended up with a terrible stomachache.

That was the very night Nan Zhengyi challenged him. Qin Jianguo thought, even with a stomachache, he could easily handle this loser. But alas, he miscalculated—he lost control and soiled his pants! Nan Zhengyi, however, was convinced he had won fair and square.

From then on, their infamous duel was immortalized in “family history” as a source of endless amusement.

Qin Xuan and the others watched the two men bicker like children, struggling to suppress their laughter.

So Dad likes to show off in front of me, Qin Xuan thought, finally understanding the pride fathers of daughters must feel.

After a cheerful dinner, Nan Zhiyi obediently sat on the sofa watching TV. Liu Ruoxi sat beside her, wanting to speak, but with Wang Manshu present, she held her tongue.

Grandma smiled warmly at Nan Zhiyi, mulling something over. After a moment, she disappeared into her room and returned with a red envelope.

Surprised, Nan Zhiyi accepted the red envelope, thanking Grandma repeatedly. The old woman took her hand, speaking of family harmony and other things Nan Zhiyi didn’t fully understand, but she nodded along all the same.

Liu Ruoxi, however, stared in bewilderment at the red envelope in Nan Zhiyi’s hand. What was going on?

Qin Jianguo, still sulking, finished washing the dishes and beckoned Qin Xuan, who was about to sneak off to play games.

Outside, Qin Jianguo patted Qin Xuan’s shoulder. “Son, can you bear to see your old man humiliated by Nan Zhengyi?”

Qin Xuan was confused. “Dad, what are you getting at?”

“Look,” Qin Jianguo said seriously, “if you win over his daughter, wouldn’t that be the best revenge?”

Qin Xuan was dumbfounded. What kind of twisted logic was this?

“No, Dad! That’s not how it works!” Qin Xuan quickly tried to stop his increasingly demented father. “What would Ruoxi think? Besides, you could just have another match with him.”

With that, Qin Xuan dashed off.

Left behind, Qin Jianguo rubbed his head, sensing something was off. Still, another fight... He patted his round belly. Maybe it really was more practical for his son to win over Nan Zhiyi...
