Chapter 139: What's the Big Deal About Eating Your Ice Pop?
Lin'er dragged Qin Xuan along to the supermarket to buy a whole box of ice cream, and then happily carried it home in her arms.
It was late April, and the weather in Chengdu was already quite warm. Ever since she was little, Lin'er loved eating ice cream whenever the weather got hot, but her constitution couldn't handle it well, often resulting in stomachaches. Every time her stomach hurt, she would run over to Qin Xuan's room, which had interrupted him quite a few times in the past...
Later on, Qin Xuan strictly limited Lin'er's ice cream "intake," but Lin'er would always sneak around behind his back to eat it, only to end up with a stomachache again...
Qin Xuan still remembered one summer vacation when Lin'er was on her period. Because the weather was too hot, she couldn't resist eating an ice cream bar, and that was also the time Lin'er first learned what absolute turmoil felt like! Moreover, their mom and dad weren't home, so Qin Xuan stayed by her side all night. The ordeal tortured her to the point where she would blush just at the sight of ice cream for the rest of that summer.
Much later on, somehow, she started eating ice cream again, though she was much more careful than before, often handing the unfinished half to Qin Xuan...
"You better not end up with a stomachache again," Qin Xuan said, watching Qin Lin'er, who was carrying a whole box of ice cream and walking with a spring in her step.
Qin Lin'er turned around and glared at him fiercely: "Shut up!"
"Don't you know that digestion and stomachs get a lot better when you grow up?"
"You? You can't even swallow your food properly, and you expect a good stomach?" Qin Xuan shook his head in disbelief.
Lin'er paused mid-step, standing frozen in place as she stared blankly at Qin Xuan. What on earth?! I always feel like there's something wrong with what you just said.
Back home, Lin'er hurried to put the ice cream in the refrigerator, afraid it would melt.
Nan Zhiyi sat on the sofa, looking curiously at the large stash of ice cream Lin'er had bought: "Give me one?"
Lin'er had already finished organizing the freezer. Seeing Nan Zhiyi holding out her hand to her, she rummaged through the freezer, pulled out an ice cream bar, and handed it to her.
"Huh?" Nan Zhiyi stared at the old-style plain popsicles in her hand...
"I wanted chocolate flavor," Nan Zhiyi said, though she showed no intention of returning the plain popsicle.
"The old-style popsicles taste better, chocolate gets cloying after a while..." Lin'er insisted stubbornly.
Nan Zhiyi gave her an eye roll, tore open the packaging, and took a lick. Because of the walk back, the ice cream had melted slightly, but old-style popsicles were just right this way.
Watching Nan Zhiyi happily eating her popsicle, Lin'er couldn't help but grab one for herself... a chocolate one.
Seeing Lin'er's double standard, Nan Zhiyi took her plain popsicle and went over to find Qin Xuan. Go on, enjoy your smugness!
Nan Zhiyi walked over to Qin Xuan, who was still in the kitchen slicing pork liver, and held the popsicle right up to his face.
Qin Xuan looked at the two tooth marks on it and took a bite right over them. It was cool and refreshing, not bad.
"Alright, run along now. I'm going to start cooking, there might be a bit of oily smoke later," taking advantage of having free time on the weekend, Qin Xuan planned to cook up some good food to feed the girls today.
"It's fine, I'll watch you cook," Nan Zhiyi shook her head and stood by the side, eating her popsicle.
Qin Xuan gave her an awkward look.
It wasn't long before Nan Zhiyi covered her nose and ran out. Why was it so choking!
Unable to stand it anymore, Nan Zhiyi bolted back to her room and shut the door tightly, which made her feel a bit better.
Watching Nan Zhiyi flee, Qin Xuan shrugged helplessly. Since you hardly ever step foot in the kitchen, of course you couldn't take it.
However, the aroma stimulated Liu Ruoxi instead. Originally, Liu Ruoxi was still sitting in front of her computer, planning to help Qin Xuan rank up in his game.
After enduring it for a little while, Liu Ruoxi couldn't hold back anymore. She dropped her mouse, stood up, and walked straight toward the kitchen.
"What are you making? The smell is so strong?"
Qin Xuan looked somewhat startled at Liu Ruoxi, who was still wearing her pajamas, and gestured with his spatula toward the wok: "Stir-fried pork liver, helping you all get some iron."
Having no choice, Liu Ruoxi left the kitchen and headed to the balcony for some fresh air. There, she saw Lin'er sitting on a chair, eating ice cream while playing on her phone, with a cat named Wanzhi dozing on her lap.
Seeing this, Liu Ruoxi turned around, rummaged through the refrigerator for an ice cream bar, pulled a stool over to sit in front of Lin'er, and casually snatched Wanzhi away to pet its fur.
"Hey? Sister Xi, why are you snatching my ice cream?" Lin'er, fiercely protective of her food, looked at the ice cream in Liu Ruoxi's hand and protested somewhat indignantly.
Liu Ruoxi was long used to snatching it and knew Lin'er was just putting up a verbal front, so she continued eating unbothered.
"I even handed Qin Xuan over to you, what's wrong with eating one of your ice creams?"
This remark left Qin Lin'er completely at a loss for words. Her eyes rolled around.
"Hehe, Sister Xi, go ahead and eat. How about you let me have him for two more days?"
"Don't be ungrateful. I'm doing this out of concern for you, afraid you won't be able to handle it..." Liu Ruoxi said to Lin'er with a sincere expression.
"Bulls***! I can handle it!" Lin'er patted her chest confidently.
Wanzhi, resting on Liu Ruoxi's lap, looked at the two of them curiously. What are they talking about? A little kitty doesn't understand...
Half an hour later, Qin Xuan finally carried several dishes to the table and called out for everyone to come eat.
During lunch, Liu Ruoxi stared fixedly at the stir-fried pork liver and ate it voraciously.
After the meal, the group lounged on the sofa to rest for a bit. Seeing that the sunshine outside was just right, they thought about going out to catch some rays, but Lin'er stubbornly refused to go out.
In the end, Liu Ruoxi dragged Nan Zhiyi out to go shopping, while Lin'er sprawled on the sofa and grabbed yet another ice cream to eat...
When Qin Xuan finished cleaning the kitchen and came out, he saw only Lin'er left.
"Where are they?" Qin Xuan walked naturally up to Lin'er, rested her little head on his lap, and asked curiously.
"Went out shopping," Lin'er licked a bite of her ice cream and held it out toward Qin Xuan as a gesture.
Seeing that she had just eaten a meal and was already eating more ice cream, Qin Xuan opened his mouth wide and bit away half of it right then and there...
"Whoa, you!" Lin'er looked at Qin Xuan with a pitiful expression.
Qin Xuan reached out and pinched her puffed-up little cheeks: "Eat too much and your stomach will hurt."
"Why didn't you go shopping?"
Lin'er continued eating the remaining half: "If all of us went, you'd definitely be bored at home."
Looking at Lin'er's serious expression, Qin Xuan thought to himself, *Actually, I could play chess...*
Even so, Qin Xuan lowered his head and kissed Lin'er on the forehead.
Lin'er pushed him away in mock disgust: "So gross!"
Hearing this, Qin Xuan lowered his head and showered her face with random kisses, making Lin'er's little face wrinkle in grievance.
"I'm going to kiss you back!" Unconvinced, Lin'er finished off the ice cream in two bites, climbed onto Qin Xuan's lap, and tried to kiss him.
Not only did Qin Xuan not refuse, but he even leaned his head forward a bit.
"Forget it, you're gross!" Seeing him act like this, Lin'er suddenly lost the desire, but how could Qin Xuan let her go? He reached out, wrapped his arms around her waist, and stole a few more kisses.
After the two of them playfully wrestled for a bit, Lin'er leaned against Qin Xuan's embrace, listening to the sound of his heartbeat.
"I heard no two people in the world have the exact same heartbeat sound, is that true?" Lin'er curiously reached out and covered both their chest areas to feel it.
"It feels pretty much the same!" Lin'er discovered with pleasant surprise that the "thump-thump-thump" rhythm of their hearts seemed synchronized.
After listening for a moment longer, Lin'er suddenly noticed that Qin Xuan's heartbeat seemed to have quickened its pace. Raising her head just as she was about to speak, she saw Qin Xuan looking right down at her with a smile.
Lin'er abruptly let go of her hands and smoothed down her clothes: "S-Sister Xi and the others are coming back, we'll talk about this in a few days!"
With that, she tried to make her escape, but Qin Xuan reached out and scooped her right back into his arms.
"I don't want to wait a few days!"
Scooping Lin'er up in a bridal carry, Qin Xuan walked toward her bedroom. A moment later, Wanzhi on the sofa pricked up its ears...
