Sitting by the window, Qin Xuan gazed at the gloomy sky outside. It looked as though rain was on the way. Please don’t let it actually rain—I didn’t bring an umbrella.

Unfortunately, things often turned out contrary to one’s wishes. Within minutes, heavy rain began pouring outside.

Qin Xuan looked out at the rain and gave Liu Ruoxi an exasperated sigh. This was really troublesome.

The rain continued without pause until noon. Like countless other stunned classmates, the three of them stood on the steps, trying to think of a way home.

“How about I take off my clothes?” Qin Xuan asked the other two after glancing around.

“Absolutely not! We can wait a little longer. It looks like it’ll stop soon.” Liu Ruoxi rolled her eyes at him, then looked up at the slightly weakening rain.

“We might as well go eat in the cafeteria,” Qin Xuan said.

“But we don’t have class during the first period this afternoon...” Lin’er tugged at Qin Xuan’s hand and swung it back and forth. The teacher had announced in the class group chat that she was away on a business trip, so they had a free period.

Nan Zhiyi arrived carrying her bag and looked at their gloomy faces. “What’s wrong with you three?”

“The rain is so heavy. We’re trying to figure out how to get home,” Qin Xuan replied helplessly.

Nan Zhiyi gave her a sly smile, reached out, and wrapped both hands around Qin Xuan’s arm. “Come with me.”

As a local who had grown up here, Nan Zhiyi knew the surroundings like the back of her hand.

Curious, the others followed Nan Zhiyi as she led them through one school building after another, turning this way and that. At last, they came to a small door in the distance, and the three of them stared at it blankly.

“Let’s go.” Nan Zhiyi beckoned them over, clearly pleased by their astonished expressions.

They only got a little wet during that short stretch. Once they passed through the small door, they found themselves in an old alley, where the tiled roofs overhead shielded half the road.

Ruoxi and the others carefully walked along the wall. After they left the alley, Qin Xuan still called a taxi.

When they got home, the others returned to their rooms to change. Qin Xuan did not mind being wet and went straight to the kitchen to prepare lunch.

By the time the three girls had finished changing, the delicious aroma drifting from the kitchen had drawn them all inside.

Seeing them gathered around like starving chicks waiting to be fed, Qin Xuan helplessly filled a small plate with fried crispy pork and handed it to them.

“Thank you!”

Liu Ruoxi snatched the plate and returned to the sofa. Watching the three of them blow on the steaming food before hurriedly stuffing it into their mouths made Qin Xuan want to laugh.

Lin’er, in particular, bit off a small piece, then hesitated, afraid it was too hot to put the rest into her mouth.

When Qin Xuan finished cooking and brought the dishes to the table, he discovered that the plate was already empty. He simply pushed a large platter of fried crispy pork in front of them.

“Go ahead and eat. I’ll fry more for you next time,” Qin Xuan said, glancing at them.

While they were eating, Qin Xuan suddenly felt someone kick him. He raised his head and looked at Lin’er.

Lin’er immediately lowered her head, her face faintly flushed as she obediently continued eating.

Qin Xuan thought that meant she would behave from then on, but before long, Lin’er placed her foot on his leg. Looking at the small, rosy foot resting there, Qin Xuan could not resist taking it in his hand. Lin’er’s body instantly trembled.

This startled Liu Ruoxi. “What are you doing?”

As soon as she spoke, Liu Ruoxi noticed that Lin’er’s foot had disappeared beneath the table. She frowned at Lin’er, who continued eating as though nothing had happened.

Liu Ruoxi ignored her and merely glared at Qin Xuan.

Nan Zhiyi, meanwhile, shot Lin’er an awkward glance. Can’t you be a little more careful? You kicked me just now!

Was this some sort of private amusement between the two of them? Nan Zhiyi had no idea whether they had always behaved like this, but Qin Xuan had never treated her that way. He had only ever disliked her...

Nan Zhiyi lowered her head and wiggled her toes twice. Nothing interesting about them...

After lunch, they cleaned up, and Qin Xuan went back to bed for an afternoon nap. He had been rather tired the night before.

The rain was still falling outside. All he could do was hope it would stop by the time they had to leave.

...

Qin Xuan was woken by Lin’er. Liu Ruoxi had vanished without a trace, and the rain outside had already stopped. She had probably gone out.

Qin Xuan nudged Lin’er, who was lying in his arms, and checked the time. It was already past three.

“Mmm... Let me sleep a little longer.” Lin’er rubbed her eyes and yawned drowsily.

Seeing her like that, Qin Xuan reached out and pinched her cheeks a few times.

“You have to go to class.”

“Oh, come on.” Lin’er slapped his hand away. “Sister Qin had something to do too, so we don’t have class this afternoon!”

“Hm?” Qin Xuan froze. He took out his phone and checked the class group chat, only to find that Sister Qin had already posted an announcement. It was true.

Qin Xuan tossed his phone aside, put his arm around Lin’er, and lay back down with her.

Not long afterward, Liu Ruoxi returned with a package and found the two of them sprawled on the bed without a shred of dignity. She sighed helplessly. I was gone for only a little while, and you took advantage of the opportunity.

But seeing how comfortably they were sleeping, she still closed the door gently and sat on the sofa to open the things she had bought a few days earlier.

When Nan Zhiyi returned after attending the first class of the afternoon, she found Liu Ruoxi unpacking the delivery. Curious, she walked over for a look.

What, more of these things? How shameless!

“Sis Ruoxi, give me a few pieces, please?”

Liu Ruoxi glanced at her. “Buy your own. Qin Xuan bought these for me.”

“Oh, look, he bought this shirt too large. It won’t look good on you. Give it to me.” Nan Zhiyi picked up one of the unpacked garments from the sofa and held it against herself with a delighted expression.

“Stop talking nonsense! If I can’t wear it, do you think you can?” Liu Ruoxi snatched it back and glared fiercely at Nan Zhiyi. All right, she had indeed just realized that she had bought it too large—but Nan Zhiyi could not wear it either!

“What are you talking about? Didn’t we compare last time?” Nan Zhiyi raised an eyebrow at her. “Why are you still refusing to admit it?”

“I...” Liu Ruoxi truly had not expected Nan Zhiyi to have that particular advantage. They looked almost the same, yet the result...

“I’m not giving it to you anyway. Get lost!” Liu Ruoxi crumpled the garment into a ball and tossed it aside.

“You miser. Keep it as a family heirloom!” Nan Zhiyi huffed angrily, yet still plopped down beside her, enviously watching as Liu Ruoxi sorted through her things.

“I can leave it to Lin’er if I want, can’t I?”

“...”

Nan Zhiyi stared at her. “Don’t make me laugh...”

Lin’er was a light sleeper by nature. Awakened by the conversation outside, she climbed out of Qin Xuan’s arms, opened the door, and poked her head out.

“Why are you calling me?”

Nan Zhiyi suddenly had an idea and waved her over. “Come here. Your sister Ruoxi bought some clothes for you.”

“Oh?”

Lin’er approached curiously. Nan Zhiyi picked up the garment beside her and handed it over.

“Look. Doesn’t it suit you?”

Damn it! Lin’er held it up, gave it a disdainful glance, and thought, Who would want this?

She immediately tossed it back at Nan Zhiyi and turned to slip away.

“Hey, you don’t want it? Then I’ll take it.” Nan Zhiyi promptly stuffed it into her own bag. Just like that, it was hers. She was positively delighted.

After Liu Ruoxi finished sorting everything, she put the clothes into a basin and intended to have Qin Xuan wash them. After all, they had been bought for him—what was so difficult about washing them?

When she returned to the room, she found Qin Xuan playing a game at the computer. Lin’er was sitting on his lap, absorbed in her phone. It was a surprisingly harmonious scene.

“Qin Xuan, the clothes I bought have arrived. Remember to wash them for me later, all right?” Liu Ruoxi stood behind him and massaged his shoulders as she spoke.

“Sure!” Qin Xuan’s eyes lit up. He patted Lin’er and stood. “Take over for me.”

Liu Ruoxi helplessly took his place and began playing the chess game. After taking one look at the screen, she thought, What on earth are you playing?
