Chapter 108: Please, Stop Showing Off!
When Qin Lin’er returned with food, she saw Nan Zhiyi sitting on Qin Xuan’s lap, and suddenly the chicken leg in her mouth lost all its appeal. Liu Ruoxi said nothing, placing the barbecue on the table.
“Having a good time?” Liu Ruoxi glanced at Nan Zhiyi’s flushed face; having been through this before, she understood the situation all too well.
Nan Zhiyi, a little embarrassed, stood up, took some meat, and left. Halfway out, she remembered something, came back to take the towel by the bed, pretending not to notice Liu Ruoxi’s disdainful look.
“What are you still staring at?” Qin Lin’er was enjoying the spectacle when she was suddenly snapped at.
“Should I leave then?” Qin Lin’er grabbed half the barbecue before leaving, grinning happily.
After the door closed, Liu Ruoxi finally looked at Qin Xuan, who was playing games, sitting on the bed changing clothes, glancing at the rumpled sheets with a frown.
“How do you feel?”
Qin Xuan was at a loss for words and fell silent. Seeing this, Liu Ruoxi changed into her pajamas and straddled Qin Xuan’s lap.
Her gaze made Qin Xuan feel a bit guilty. He wiped his already clean hands and responded, “It’s okay…”
“Hmph, no sleeping for you tonight!” Liu Ruoxi wrapped her arms around Qin Xuan’s neck and said fiercely.
“All right!” Qin Xuan replied, putting his arm around her waist. “If you say that, I don’t even want to play games anymore!”
Unexpectedly, Liu Ruoxi swallowed hard, grabbed some barbecue nearby, and stuffed it into Qin Xuan’s mouth. “Eat something!”
...
That night, Qin Lin’er thought the noise next door got even louder! It was so annoying she couldn’t sleep even with the blanket over her head.
The next morning, four pairs of eyes with dark circles stared at each other across the breakfast table.
“Big brother~” Qin Lin’er sipped her porridge and whispered to him, “Can you guys be a little quieter?!”
“Cough, cough, next time for sure!” Qin Xuan scratched his head helplessly. But it wasn’t his voice, so he looked at Liu Ruoxi, who kept her head down, focused on her porridge, ignoring him.
The week flew by, and when Liu Ruoxi found out Qin Xuan was going to Nan Zhiyi’s house for dinner, she wasn’t surprised—after all, Aunt Yang had met her many times.
Of course, that night, Liu Ruoxi still pinned Qin Xuan to the bed and gave him a good scolding.
At 9 a.m. on Saturday, Liu Ruoxi was still asleep while Qin Xuan was already up, only to find Nan Zhiyi was still sleeping too. Weren’t they supposed to go to her house?
Standing by Nan Zhiyi’s bed, Qin Xuan shook his head at her sleeping face. “Sis, sleeping like this isn’t good at all!”
To prove his point, Qin Xuan gave her a light tap.
“What are you doing...” Nan Zhiyi rubbed her sore butt, opened her eyes, and looked at Qin Xuan in surprise.
“Look at your sleeping posture—how will the baby ever get enough milk that way?”
Nan Zhiyi realized she had been sleeping face down. “Don’t worry, the baby will grow up plump and healthy!”
She sat up and gestured to Qin Xuan.
“Hey, stop, stop!” Her eyes sparkled mischievously.
“Get up and wash up; we’ve got things to do!” Qin Xuan turned his head to avoid looking at her.
“Okay, okay,” Nan Zhiyi replied gloomily and pulled the covers over herself.
Half an hour later, Qin Xuan saw Nan Zhiyi still in her pajamas, sitting on the sofa eating steamed buns.
“Can’t you change into something else?” Qin Xuan said, a bit helpless.
“Liu Jie and Lin’er aren’t here anyway. What’s it to you?” Nan Zhiyi said matter-of-factly, leaning forward on the table, showing off, leaving Qin Xuan stunned.
“Alright, alright, stop showing off!” Qin Xuan lifted his bowl to block his view.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk, you didn’t do anything a few days ago? Now you’re showing off in front of me!” Nan Zhiyi looked down on Qin Xuan’s expression. Thinking back to a few days prior, she blushed and had even thrown away the towel!
“Fine, I’ll watch next time. Let’s go to your place first,” Qin Xuan said, quickly finishing the steamed buns, pretending not to hear her.
When they stepped out, Qin Xuan had planned to buy something, but Nan Zhiyi refused, saying her mom didn’t like that. Qin Xuan couldn’t argue and checked the time—it was already 11 a.m. They hailed a taxi.
At the door, they saw Yang Ying watering plants in the yard.
“Mom!” Nan Zhiyi ran to her.
“Hey?” Yang Ying looked up at Nan Zhiyi and Qin Xuan behind her.
“Qin Xuan’s here,” Yang Ying said, brushing past Nan Zhiyi and patting Qin Xuan on the shoulder.
Nan Zhiyi thought, what about me?
“What are you standing there for? Go pour some water,” Yang Ying urged, noticing Nan Zhiyi lingering.
“Oh…” Nan Zhiyi answered reluctantly.
After filling her cup, she came out to find Qin Xuan and her mother chatting on the sofa, holding what looked like childhood photos of herself.
Nan Zhiyi stepped closer and saw all the pictures showed her as a tomboy in her youth—the kind she wouldn’t dare display in her room.
She caught Qin Xuan sneaking glances at her. If her mother weren’t there, she would have pounced on him to scold!
After chatting a while, Yang Ying went to the kitchen to cook while Qin Xuan flipped through the photo album.
“Zhiyi, your short hair looks so spirited!” Qin Xuan pointed at a photo of Nan Zhiyi with her hands in her pockets, smiling.
“You! Stop looking!” Nan Zhiyi pounced and snatched the album from Qin Xuan.
“Hey, hey, let me see,” Qin Xuan hid it behind his back, amused.
“Look at this one; it’s much prettier!” Qin Xuan flipped back to a picture of Nan Zhiyi in a white dress with her hair down, much more attractive than the earlier one.
“That was taken after you met me,” Nan Zhiyi said, sitting beside Qin Xuan.
In the kitchen, Yang Ying watched the two chatting outside and thought they looked perfect together, but then she remembered Liu Ruoxi… whatever, she decided to ignore it.
After a while, Nan Zhiyi pulled Qin Xuan to her room.
“You better look at these photos instead. Don’t look at the old ones!” Nan Zhiyi snatched the album back and pointed to the pictures hanging on the secret room’s wall.
Qin Xuan was speechless looking at the photos so different from the album ones. Is this what they call a girl’s transformation after eighteen?
Nan Zhiyi dragged Qin Xuan onto her small bed and started tickling him.
“You don’t want to look at the real me! You only want to look at the childhood photos!” Nan Zhiyi complained after the tickling.
“Well... I like the childhood me too,” Qin Xuan said seriously, looking into her eyes.
“Huh? Why?” Nan Zhiyi looked at him suspiciously.
Qin Xuan paused. “Though not as pretty as now, and kind of messy and untidy back then, but…”
Just as Nan Zhiyi expected some big reveal—
“But the childhood us could be brothers!”
Qin Xuan put his arm around Nan Zhiyi’s shoulder and patted her like a brother. “Right? Good brothers!”
