Chapter 97: My Wife Smells So Sweet!
In the blink of an eye, Song Yan and Qin Xin had been stranded on this small island for five days. Every day, Song Yan would ride his sword out in search of other islands, because fresh water was so scarce here that they could only gather a little dew from the leaves each day, far from enough for the two of them to drink.
Whoosh.
Song Yan pressed down his sword light and landed on the beach. Qin Xin hurried out of the makeshift wooden hut they had rebuilt.
"Brother-in-law, any luck?"
Song Yan drew the bronze sword back into his body and shook his head. "Nothing found yet."
Over these past few days, Song Yan had already ridden his sword over an area of more than ten thousand miles, yet he still had not found a single island. It struck him as deeply strange.
"It's fine. We'll keep looking slowly," Qin Xin comforted him.
By now, the month-long deadline Dong Huang, the palace mistress, had given her was long past. As a result, the turmoil and anguish in Qin Xin's heart had gradually begun to settle instead.
"We can only do it this way for now."
Song Yan nodded. "I'll go catch a fish in the sea first."
As he spoke, he took off his clothes, leaving only a pair of shorts on as he walked into the water. The sun over the sea was still scorching, so after several days, Song Yan's fair skin had turned bronze.
Yet in Qin Xin's eyes, her brother-in-law, with his bronze complexion, looked even more manly.
Splash.
Water burst upward as Song Yan dove into the sea. Qin Xin's gaze grew dazed again.
"If we really can't leave here, then growing old alone with brother-in-law on this island wouldn't be such a bad thing."
Before long, Song Yan returned to the beach carrying a sea fish weighing five or six pounds, with an oval head and scarlet scales.
"Brother-in-law, that fish is pretty," Qin Xin said as she came over, studying the red fish with interest.
"Yes. The only question is how it tastes." Song Yan smiled and used the bronze flying sword to clean and gut it. The sea held countless kinds of fish, and in all the days he had gone into the water to catch them, he had hardly found two that were the same.
Soon, he skewered the seasoned red fish on a branch.
By then, Qin Xin had already lit a campfire while he was preparing the fish.
About ten minutes later, the flesh of the red fish was about seventy or eighty percent cooked, and a fragrant, indescribable aroma began to rise from it.
Qin Xin could not help saying, "Brother-in-law, this red fish smells amazing. It has to be delicious."
In truth, after eating fish for five consecutive days, Qin Xin had grown rather tired of it, no matter how delicious Song Yan's grilled fish was.
And yet, when she smelled the fragrance coming from this red fish, she could not help feeling an urgent impulse to taste it at once.
Three minutes or so later, the red fish was fully roasted. Song Yan spread the seasoning evenly over the fish, then returned it to the fire for another dozen seconds. The spices soon soaked in completely.
The scent of fish grew even richer.
This time, not only Qin Xin, but even Song Yan himself could no longer resist the urge to taste the red fish right away.
"Here."
Song Yan cut off a piece of the red fish and handed it to Qin Xin.
"Thank you, brother-in-law."
After thanking him, Qin Xin quickly brought the fish to her mouth. She only took a small bite, and her eyes immediately narrowed into crescent moons. Then she took two more bites and mumbled to Song Yan, "Brother-in-law, this red fish is unbelievably good. You have to try it too."
"Is that so?"
Song Yan hurriedly cut himself a piece and put it into his mouth.
At once, a strange, intoxicating fragrance exploded across his tongue, a marvelous flavor beyond description.
After removing the innards, this red fish must have yielded at least four pounds of meat, yet in less than half an hour, the two of them had actually finished it all.
Qin Xin licked her lips, still wanting more, and said, "Brother-in-law, next time you catch fish, could you catch this kind again?"
"Of course. Come on, drink some water."
Song Yan took a new bottle of mineral water from his storage ring and handed it to Qin Xin.
There were only about thirty bottles of mineral water stored in the ring. Though the two of them had been very frugal over these days, they had still used six bottles.
Qin Xin took the bottle, twisted it open naturally, drank two mouthfuls, and handed it back. "Brother-in-law, here you go."
Song Yan did not stand on ceremony. He took the bottle and drank deeply. Over the past few days, the two of them had grown used to sharing the same bottle of wine and the same bottle of water, and it no longer felt awkward.
Once they had eaten enough, they naturally needed something entertaining to pass the time.
So Song Yan took a deck of cards from his storage ring and began playing a two-player version of Fight the Landlord.
But as they played, Song Yan found his mind wandering. His eyes kept glancing toward Qin Xin from time to time.
Qin Xin, too, felt as though she could no longer control her own gaze, and she kept sneaking looks at Song Yan.
At last.
Their eyes met in midair, and the air around them suddenly grew hot.
Fifty centimeters.
Thirty centimeters.
Twenty centimeters.
Ten centimeters.
It was as if they were being drawn together by some mysterious force, their faces inching closer and closer.
At last, they pressed together completely.
"Xin'er," Song Yan called softly. He could feel a force inside him that he could no longer suppress, one that was devouring his reason bit by bit.
"Brother-in-law," Qin Xin whispered back, her voice full of tenderness.
"Mm..."
Song Yan could restrain himself no longer. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her fully into his embrace, then fiercely pressed his lips to her cherry-red mouth.
And once that kiss began, there was no stopping it.
A flame rose within both of them, impossible to extinguish. That fire burned away all their reason and all their reservations, leaving only the most primal impulses of humankind.
As they kissed, they began tearing at each other's clothes in a frenzy.
Very soon, the two of them were completely naked before one another.
"Ah..."
A cry that was part pain, part pleasure rose up, and the two bodies merged completely.
Even afterward, their bodies still did not separate.
Song Yan was quite frustrated. During this period, aside from teasing Qin Xin a little now and then, he had always been restrained, because he was worried that once he won Qin Xin's heart, he would complete the mission and be sent away from this world.
Yet what puzzled him was that, to this very moment, he still had not received any notification from the system that the mission was complete.
"Could it be that Qin Xin's feelings for me were all just an act?"
Suspicion stirred in Song Yan's heart, but when he looked into the slightly shy yet deeply affectionate and dependent eyes in his arms, he felt certain that Qin Xin's feelings for him were absolutely genuine.
"Could it be because of Yu'er?"
Yu'er had once been his mortal enemy. Only because the charm technique she used rebounded on her had she become his woman.
Thinking of this, Song Yan felt that this possibility was very likely.
In other words, he still had to win the heart of one more of the Four Beauties before the mission would truly be complete.
"Brother-in-law, do you regret it?"
Seeing that Song Yan had remained silent for so long, Qin Xin asked with some concern.
"What nonsense is that, you little fool." Song Yan gently kissed her forehead and said softly, "For me to have you is a blessing earned over eight lifetimes. How could I possibly regret it?"
Still, Song Yan could not shake the feeling that something about him and Qin Xin today had been unusual. By rights, both of them were people who knew how to restrain themselves. How had they suddenly lost control and become intimate like this?
Thank you to Baonuwang for the tip. Here is the third update, and there will be one more.
