Inside the study.

Qinxin went on, saying that at first the palace lord had intended to make complete enemies of them, but Yuer was his most beloved disciple. Now that Yuer had married Song Yan, the palace lord wished to invite him to Penglai Island for an earnest talk.

Song Yan did not believe her. To cut off a man's source of livelihood was as good as killing his parents. He had severed the Mountain and Sea Divine Palace's means of profit, so could Donghuang, as palace lord, truly tolerate such a thing merely because of one disciple? He would never believe it.

He was more inclined to think that they wanted to lure him to Penglai Island and kill him there.

Of course, even if Donghuang did not try to draw him into the Mountain and Sea Divine Palace, he would still make the trip before leaving this world.

For the State of Qi, the Mountain and Sea Divine Palace was a time bomb. If he did not destroy it or bring it to heel, he would never be able to leave in peace.

"All right, I agree. When do we set out?" Song Yan asked with a smile.

Qinxin froze. She had not expected him to agree so readily. She had prepared many arguments, but now they were useless. At the same time, a trace of worry rose in her heart.

After a long silence, Qinxin said with a complicated expression, "Brother-in-law, won't you think about it a little more?"

"What is there to think about? Palace Lord Donghuang is, after all, Yuer's master. Now that I have taken Yuer as my wife, no matter what, I should go meet him and thank him." Song Yan smiled.

"Do you really think that? Aren't you afraid there may be danger on this trip?" Qinxin pressed.

"I believe you won't harm me, right?"

Meeting Song Yan's bright gaze, Qinxin did not dare look back at him. She averted her eyes and said, "Very well. Since brother-in-law has made up his mind, we will set out tomorrow."

Because they would be leaving for the Mountain and Sea Divine Palace the next day, Song Yan indulged Chunhe, Qiuxiang, and even Yuer to the fullest.

The three women knew he was leaving and did everything they could to please him. Thus, even though Song Yan possessed profound cultivation and a robust body, by the time he departed the next morning, he still felt a soreness in his waist.

He waved to Yuer and the four women of the Jade Fox Princess. "Go back. I will return very soon!"

That evening, Song Yan and Qinxin arrived by horse at a pier in Linhai Prefecture. Qinxin had prepared in advance, and a medium-sized seafaring vessel was already waiting there.

A crew of boatmen stood by aboard the ship, so as soon as the two boarded, the vessel set sail toward Penglai Island.

These boatmen were not ordinary people, but martial practitioners with cultivation. They were likely outer disciples of the Mountain and Sea Divine Palace.

Song Yan did not mind. After chatting with Qinxin for a while, he returned to his assigned room to rest.

For the first time in his life, whether in the real world or in this one, Song Yan went to sea.

Thus, early the next morning, he came out of the cabin and stood on deck to watch the sunrise over the ocean.

To his disappointment, the sky was especially overcast that day, with no sign of the sun.

After lingering on deck for half an hour, he returned below.

Life at sea was rather dull, so after breakfast Song Yan sought out Qinxin for a game of chess. By then, his cultivation had reached the level where he no longer needed to train deliberately, for the true energy within him circulated of its own accord.

Thus, he needed only an hour a day for cultivation.

Yet as they played, Song Yan noticed that Qinxin had lost her usual calm and seemed somewhat restless.

Seeing this, Song Yan thought to himself, Could she be worried about me?

By noon, the weather at sea had grown even worse and more somber, as though a storm were about to break.

A rolling peal of thunder reached their ears. Song Yan and Qinxin had neither of them any mind for chess anymore, and when they went together to the deck, they saw that the clouds had become thick and low. A storm would likely strike very soon.

"Lower the sails and reduce our speed!" Qinxin ordered at once.

When storms struck at sea, visibility dropped drastically. It was nearly as though a blind man were steering the vessel, making the danger extremely high.

But they could not stop, either, because remaining at the center of thunder and rain was also terribly dangerous.

Once the sails were lowered and the ship slowed, Qinxin's face remained grim. She went to the bow, looked out for a while, and then said to the crew, "All of you, stay alert. No slacking, understand?"

"Understood, Senior Sister Qin," the boatmen replied in unison.

Another crash of lightning and thunder rang out. Shortly after, the rain came pouring down, with drops larger than beans and yet falling in such dense torrents that the world seemed erased.

At the same time, the waves rose more violently, shaking the whole ship so hard that Song Yan could not help wondering whether it might simply come apart.

As his cultivation grew ever stronger, Song Yan had always believed that the world was vast, yet there was nowhere he could not go.

But at this moment, standing amid the roiling sea, he finally felt how small he was. Compared with nature, he was truly insignificant.

Just then, a strong unease surged from the depths of his heart.

With a thought, he activated his piercing sight and looked through the heavy curtain of rain in all directions.

In the next instant, his expression changed abruptly. He had discovered an enormous hurricane, almost connected to the horizon, sweeping toward the ship's position. Though it was still five kilometers away, even if they changed course immediately, it would be too late.

What was more, this sea vessel was controlled by men, not a mechanical ship. In such violent waves, it could barely move an inch, let alone turn around.

So the only way to avoid the hurricane was to leap into the sea and descend beneath the water.

"Xin'er, I have discovered a tremendous hurricane heading our way. Quickly order everyone to jump into the sea!" Song Yan said gravely to Qinxin.

Qinxin froze, then immediately issued the order to everyone on board: jump into the sea and hide beneath the water.

"Senior Sister Qin, has something happened?" the leader among the boatmen asked in confusion at her command.

"Bad! The hurricane has already reached within two kilometers. If you don't jump now, it will be too late!" Song Yan shouted a warning. As the hurricane drew nearer, the waves grew ever more ferocious.

"Go!"

Song Yan knew that every second spent aboard the ship increased the danger. He seized Qinxin's hand and leapt into the raging sea. The waves soon swallowed their figures.

He did not know whether the hurricane would affect the water below the surface, so after entering the sea, he pulled Qinxin rapidly downward.

At the same time, he kept watch over the sea surface with his piercing sight.

Seeing that Song Yan and Qinxin had already jumped into the sea, several of the boatmen followed suit, but three still clung to the hope that they might be lucky and remained aboard.

Just then, the hurricane arrived with a thunderous roar. Like a colossal beast, it instantly dragged the ship into its vortex and tore it to pieces. Naturally, the three boatmen who had stayed on board did not escape their fate either.
